Tahini Chocolate Chip Bites
Have you ever heard of seed and oil cycling? I hadn’t either until a few months ago when I started implementing the practice into my daily routine. Seed and oil cycling is a way to help balance and support your hormones throughout your cycle with different seeds and oils. Pretty cool huh? Now let’s break it down.
Days 1 - 14 or the follicular phase, uses flax seeds (best when ground) and pumpkin seeds to help support rising estrogen levels that occur during this phase. Flax seeds contain lignans which help maintain estrogen balance and metabolism. The recommend oil during the follicular phase is fish oil, which is best taken as a liquid or supplement. Just be sure your fish oil has EPA in it.
Days 15 - menses (your period), or your luteal phase, is when progesterone levels rise. Sunflower and sesame seeds help support the rising progesterone levels. Evening Primrose oil is high in Gamma Linoleic Acid (GLA) and has progesterone supportive benefits.
These different seeds and oils can be incorporated into your daily diet as whole or ground seeds, so think sunflower butter, tahini, or even pumpkin butter. You can add seeds on top of salads, oatmeal, smoothies or even just eat a small handful as a snack. There are many different ways to add these seeds into your daily diet, but these are some of my favorite ways. Leave a comment and tell me your favorite way to add these seeds into your diet during the different phases of your cycle!
So not only are these tahini chocolate chip bites perfect for an afternoon sweet treat, they can also be eaten in the luteal phase of your cycle to help support progesterone! These bites are simply made from dates, oats, tahini, vanilla extract, sea salt, mini chocolate chips, and a whole lotta love for my hormones!
